I was chatting with Rizky, discussed what our next tasks. When he asked about what we're going to do with 10yearsfromnow.com, I got excited. Then I remember that so many things we could do to make a powerful content aggregator as it basic concept of 10yearsfromnow.com.
He mentioned about things procrastinated and left behind. I said, they're all okay to go because those are basic on this application. But when he mentioned about enhancing the networking feature, I suddenly remember that it could be easier to do to utilize the existing social network application to spread the word about 10yearsfromnow.com, that we don't have to maintain the social networking part. Facebook application then somehow pop-up in my head.
Yes, I think we should build a facebook application that let us promote to millions of facebook users, fetch their ideas to our database and then publish all (managed) in our portal. Still facebook members can show their ideas in their profile.
There are few readings before we start to do it:

once we done with this, we should get on with other like myspace.com, wordpress.com, etc.
I guess we back on business again :)

The 10yearsfromnow.com now is up again... thanks to Cecep. The programmer, mr Rizky is on board again. I wonder what he is thinking about getting the site works for users, for everyone. Anyway, it's good to have them on board.

javanic server , tempat 10yearsfromnow.com ngendon ternyata akses untuk uploadnya susah... padahal kalau download relatif cepat... kemungkinan masalah adalah akses internet peng-upload yang bermasalah... tetapi setelah dicoba di beberapa tempat, hasilnya sama saja bahkan ada yang lebih parah...

so apabila proses upload-mengupload ini selalu menjadi masalah ada baiknya dipertimbangkan untuk pindah server atau ganti koneksi yang lebih bagus...

Mestinya... bedanya social networking di 10yearsfromnow.com dengan social networking di tempat lain adalah, kalo di 10yearsfromnow.com isinya orang-orang pengkhayal dan visioner... mungkin juga bisa berkumpul para peramal di situ...

Untuk membuat social networking terjadi dibutuhkan profile view yang lebih baik dari sekarang, juga proses edit serta proses pembangunan koneksi yang mudah... jadi tugas segera kita adalah:

melengkapi field tambahan (properties) profil user berikut photo
menyediakan fasilitas edit profil lengkap
menyediakan fasilitas edit setting
menyediakan link untuk make friend pada setiap profile view
menyediakan page untuk manage friends

yang bikin gregetan dari 10yearsfromnow.com adalah kita sendiri sebagai user belum menemukan manfaat yang lebih dari website ini... dan celakanya site itu adalah punya kita sendiri... jadi yang bikin kita, yang nyobain kita juga tapi kita masih belum pede untuk ngelepasnya ke publik...
ada beberapa komponen yang harus tersedia baru kita agak lega...

mengenai social software...
ada dua elemen utama dalam 10yearsfromnow.com yaitu:
- manusia (user)
- post/entry (vision/insight)

karena prinsip dari social software adalah menyediakan fasilitas pemaknaan dari hubungan antara elemen-elemen tersebut, maka 10yearsfromnow.com harus juga menyediakannya..
hubungan antar user pada saat ini saya usulkan hanya satu label yaitu friend...
hubungan antar posts/entries pada saat ini saya usulkan hanya satu label yaitu revise

Tooltips yang akan digunakan di 10yearsfromnow.com masih tetap menggunakan default milik joomla!, dari koleksi mosToolTip-nya.

Namun sayang, mosToolTip milik joomla! tidak mensupport penggunaan tooltips yang manageable via administration site.

Jadilah kita sedikit modifikasi mosToolTips ini supaya bisa ngambil data "text" nya dari table, dan supaya tidak susah-susah buat administration component lagi, comot saja content management-nya joomla!.

Buat section dan kategory baru, taruh title-nya sebagai key dan taraaa.... tinggal diambil sama mosToolTip yang sudah dimodifikasi.

Jum'at minggu lalu, ada beberapa hal yang telah disepakati sebagai satu kelanjutan dalam mengembangkan 10yearsfromnow.

Ada beberapa tasks yang menjadi PR kita :) :

Perpanjangan untuk schedule alpha version.

Setelah review alpha version yang setelah lebaran kemaren, yang rencananya alpha version akan diakhiri tanggal 10 Nopember nanti, namun mengingat banyaknya tasks yang perlu dilakukan, maka fase ini diperpanjang sampai tanggal 20 Nopember.

Tanggal 20 - 30 Nopember merupakan fase review sistem ke-2 secara overall, yaitu setelah invitation kembali sejumlah orang untuk menggunakan alpha version.

Fixing Errors / enhanchment :

Perubahan tags dari "space" separated menjadi "comma" separated.
Penyediaan tooltips untuk setiap element HTML yang dirasa perlu, ie. textbox, combobox, link dslb, tooltips editable dari halaman admin.
Remove hyperlink "Collected by x users" untuk setiap posting.
Pada detail post, dibawah posting ditambahkan list posting dari related tags, menggunakan paging jika related tags-nya banyak.

After reviews and discussions after initial alpha invitation, we agreed to take these following into priority before the beta launch:

Application refinement -->> bugs fixing, process fixing, design refinement and copywriting
Develop user profile - social networking feature (minimum)
Develop further functionality and process refinement for "collection management"

We also plan to do second alpha invitation. This time we will invite outside Indonesia, mostly American (The largest internet users). This action will be conducted at Nov 20 then reviewed at Nov 23-24. Thus followed by bug fixing and preparation for beta launch.

Since it will take sometimes to develop and testing the new feature, we consider beta launch delay to December 1. Hopefully Christmas and New Year would be the right moment to think about the future.

Alpha to Beta

Base on latest discussion with Pico, we agreed to fix 3 top priority during the Alpha to Beta phase:

First of all is to develop a proper "User Profile" contain necessary data and information about the Writer/User that can be expandable to 'social network' alike model. The idea is, a person sometimes grab others people ideas and want to keep up-to-date about selected person insight. Or a person get inspired by others people ideas and want to keep track of selected person writings.
The second is in My Collection section. To be precise, is it the process that we have right now is proper enough? Good enough? Simple enough? Or complicated enough? We have to discuss more about the existing User Interface and Architecture of Information provide by 10yearsfromnow.com. This link to another issue about what we should do about category or tags. Which one is preferable and fit users needs. Used of preformated category will simplify things? Another issue came up is about management of collections to facilitate needs of users that sometimes used other people writings as references. This need to be fixed and define. Rizky and Catur, you both are the expert to simplify this issue and make it more cristal clear.
The third is about fixing minors error or undefined things such as copywriting, miss in this and that, etc.

By the way, alpha phase is expired on November 10th, so we better meet around this week to discuss how we can make this happen.

Alpha Launch Review

In my humble opinion, there are several things that we need to touch-up or enhance. I separate the issues in several category:

User Interface:

Description of each feature is better in form of tooltips or clickable question mark (?). Or in simple way, we can use "Alt" html tag inside the code for the description. In real life case, it happens in "Collect this!", where some of the Users don't know the functionalities or capabilities of Collect the articles.
Hyperlink on "Collected by X Users", it is not necessary since that link cannot be click anyway (or since it doesn't have that functionalities at the time being).
In messaging, operation button such as "Inbox", "Sent Item" and "Trash" are not fully functioning since only the icon can be click. I suggest, the text also can be click.
If one of the "Recent insight" link, click by users, it will open new page with selected article. Is better to put a title page such as "Insight detail" or "Detail insight" or even just a "Recent insight" title on those pages.

Functionality:

Name inside i.e "Posted by Pico at Monday, 16 October 2006" should be a link and clickable to Profile pages, which is, we all know such feature is not implemented yet now.
Posting date, should be include time stamp of hour (i.e. 12.30 PM).
Is there any restriction number of Popular Tags? It would be nice if we increase the number from 5 post to 10 post.
My Tags, should contain all tags that I already writen. Not just 5 tags, but all of it.

Error or unfix:

If we click Inbox after message detail in "Sent Item" (on Messaging), it will push us to log off the system.
Sender email from "Tell a friend" link, before user login to the system, should be from admin of 10yearsfromnow.com
